{Review & Giveaway} Ask Me Something (Something #2) by Aubrey Bondurant (@AubreyBondurant)11/30/2015
How do you ask the question, when you know the answer may change everything?
Sasha Brooks has been focused on one thing her entire life: her career. Newly promoted as the vice president in a New York advertising company, she has beauty, brains, and one hell of a fierce reputation. But she also has a secret that she keeps carefully guarded. Brian Carpenter is finding out that managing his newest VP isn't without its challenges, but when it comes to Sasha, he'd expect nothing less. His easygoing personality and Southern charm are the yang to her yin and the calm to her storm. Over the last eight years of their friendship, the flirtations, innuendos, and chemistry have almost led to more, but Sasha has convinced herself they're better off just friends. Almost. Until the moment she thinks he's with someone else. Is she too late to admit her feelings? Gathering the courage to ask the question, Sasha discovers she isn't the only one keeping secrets. You think you know someone....
Sasha Brooks has been fighting for years to be taken seriously. Her take-no-prisoners business acumen is well known and even earned her the nickname “Sasha-B-Fierce.” Yet underneath the seemingly perfect professional shell lies a girl who is so unsure of her beauty and power that she has never been able to tell her boss that she’s been in love with him forever.
The chemistry between them has always simmered just below a flashing point. So when a single text threatens to shatter her heart – she knows that she has to finally admit her feelings or finally let him go. “I’m trying very hard right now not to be turned on by your jealousy, Sasha.” He moved close again. “I want us both to be certain, though, before we go down a road from which we can’t return. If she hadn’t shown up tonight, how would the conversation have gone after Catherine left?”
Up until now, Brian Carpenter has been able to straddle the line between personal and professional with Sasha. He’s waited patiently for any sign that she just might feel the same way.
But his window of opportunity is narrow, rules will be broken and walls will tumble to the ground. Will they be able to forge a love all their own or will they be left with nothing of each other in the end? “I know you. How you listen to Titanium or other chick empowerment music before your pitches. That you go home on Friday nights after the gym and become a hermit until Saturday with some sort of chocolate indulgence. How you like to hear the bad news before the good because it’s easier for you to trust the bad. I know that you love the beach when it’s winter or early in the morning because it’s where you can clear your head. And I know you told me you don’t believe in fairy tales or happy endings, but fuck if I’ll accept that.”
I love discovering new authors that can not only keep me engaged, but also literally tie my heart in knots – and Aubrey Bondurant is one of them!
Ask Me Something held me captive from the very first word and then took me on a journey that was both poignant and euphoric. She has created such a strong female voice in Sasha that every modern woman can relate to her inner struggle. It’s that added dimension of emotion that sets Aubrey apart and I can’t wait to see what story she tells next… Exclusive Excerpt -His voice was doing funny things to me, so I gulped down more water. I couldn’t believe we were standing in my kitchen having this conversation. “Maybe I like to call the shots with the men I date.” Quite frankly, if they didn’t like it, then too bad, I almost added.
