{Release Day Review} Blood Vow (Black Dagger Legacy #2) by J.R. Ward (@JRWard1 @RandomHouse)12/6/2016
#1 New York Times bestselling author J. R. Ward returns with an all-new tale of paranormal passion in the world of the Black Dagger Brotherhood.
The Black Dagger Brotherhood continues to train the best of the best to join them in the deadly battle against the Lessening Society. Among the new recruits, Axe proves to be a cunning and vicious fighter—and also a loner isolated because of personal tragedy. When an aristocratic female needs a bodyguard, Axe takes the job, though he’s unprepared for the animal attraction that flares between him and the one he is sworn to protect. For Elise, who lost her first cousin to a grisly murder, Axe’s dangerous appeal is enticing—and possibly a distraction from her grief. But as they delve deeper into her cousin’s death, and their physical connection grows into so much more, Axe fears that the secrets he keeps and his tortured conscience will tear them apart. Rhage, the Brother with the biggest heart, knows all about self-punishing, and he wants to help Axe reach his full potential. But when an unexpected arrival threatens Rhage and Mary’s new family, he finds himself back in the trenches again, fighting against a destiny that will destroy all he holds most dear. As Axe’s past becomes known, and fate seems to be turning against Rhage, both males must reach deep—and pray that love, rather than anger, will be their lantern in the darkness.
Elise is secretly trying to achieve her dream of being a psychologist to help her ravaged race. As the blooded daughter of the Princeps Felixe the Younger, she is bound by the suffocating rules of the glymera – and they believe that females have little need for intelligence. She knows the real risks of stealing out of the family mansion to attend university but she's far too close to her goal to just give up.
Her father agrees to allow her to continue with her studies on one condition – she goes with a bodyguard. And that bodyguard just happens to be the very male that now haunts her dreams. Elise nodded at each of the trainees— until she got to the last one. Then she wasn’t sure what she did.
Axewell, son of Theirsh, is intimately acquainted with pain. Like many others, Axe lost everything during the raids and it’s the main reason that he's become a recruit at the training center.
Fighting alongside of the Brotherhood provides a freedom that even kink and drugs could not provide – until he met Elise. Elise deserves so much better than a complete failure with no status and no family. But he can protect her from danger and he doesn’t care if he has to sacrifice his own life to do it. You don’t really know me, he thought with a sudden fear. Shit, what if she found out he was a dirty whore… and a former drug addict who had let his father down when the male had needed him most?
Rhage and Mary have never been so happy. Now with Bitty as their daughter, their lives are now complete. Giving their young everything that she could ever want and replacing all the memories of her horrific past with ones of love is a blessing beyond anything that they ever thought that they would have.
But their happiness is shattered when someone from Bitty’s bloodline steps forward. Now faced with the prospect of letting her go, they must decide if their love is strong enough to endure a pain that promises to be far greater than anything that they have ever weathered before. “Our strength must be tested,” he whispered, “for us to know it’s still there. And I will always be your warrior, Mary mine. Always and forever.”
Blood Vow is nothing short of extraordinary! J.R. Ward has once again created a world that I simply wanted to immerse myself in and never leave. Each storyline grabbed me right by the heart and held on without any mercy. I laughed at Lassiter, cried with Mary and fell completely in love right along with Elise.
