When a mission against the Russian mafia goes south, Colonel Stafford, head of a deep-cover ops team, wrests a hospital-bed promise from his protégé. Although eager to return to the field, Evan Sommers swears to keep the colonel’s daughter, Katsu, safe from retaliation. The task isn’t simple for the battle-tested Marine Corps captain. Four years have passed since his secret affair with sweet, compliant Katsu. Now she’s a streetwise pool shark who refuses to obey any command. Kat resists the need for Evan’s protective shadow, until deadly threats expose her vulnerability. Her future depends on this hardened soldier, and their sizzling dynamic reveals what Kat’s bland college dating life lacked—a man with the will and desire to tame her. Danger creates potent, unexpected scenarios that test their sexual limits, yet a real relationship is impossible. Evan is the warrior who could be her Master, but how can she fully submit? The next mission—even the next knock on the door—could rob Kat of the man she loves. Katsu Stafford grew up knowing that what her father did was dangerous. She watched as her mother tried to stay strong every time he left for a mission. Kat swore that would never happen to her – until she met Evan Sommers. Evan is off limits in so many ways. He’s gorgeous, dominant and a member of her father’s elite team – Command Force Alpha. The time that they shared together four years ago still burns hotly in her mind and her heart. But when Evan left, Kat vowed to never be vulnerable again. But now her life is in danger and Evan is back to protect her. Kat must decide if what they once had is worth another chance or if she is too damaged to love him again. “He’d never be that young man again. And he’d never have Kat in his life again, not the way he’d dared picture years ago. He hadn’t known what it was like to live undercover, to get used to the idea he was already dead and just didn’t know it yet. It made no sense, but survival was easier that way. Kat had become a sunshine memory, like their brief affair.” Evan’s life was planned out from the very beginning - a Senator’s son who became the perfect soldier. He never imagined that he could love anyone that way he loved Katsu. But he would never ask her to suffer the way her mother did and so he walked away from the one person that he wanted most of all. Time has made Katsu harder and more reckless than ever and only he can quiet the storm raging inside of her. Should they both surrender to the desire that threatens to consume them or will Evan let his fears win once more? “How much would it have taken for you to ask me out one day and admit the truth? ‘Hey, Kat, it’s just not gonna work. You’re great, and we had a great time I won’t forget, but I’m a workaholic coward fuckwit who doesn’t deserve you.’ It wouldn’t have been a happy ending, but at least I would’ve had closure.” Own is an emotionally charged story that brings sexual tension to a whole new level! The characters are perfectly crafted and I so loved that Katsu wasn’t a stereotypical heroine. She’s feisty, dark and wears combat boots! Her connection with Evan is almost tangible and I honestly related to how she felt throughout the entire book.
