{Book Review & Giveaway} Aflame (Fall Away #4) by Penelope Douglas (@PenDouglas @BerkleyRomance)4/21/2015
From the New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of Bully, Until You, Rival, and Falling Away comes the sizzling conclusion to the Fall Away series.
The tables have turned. Now I have the power—and it’s his turn to beg… Everyone wants to be me. Maybe it’s the sway of my skirt or the way I flip my hair, but I don’t care. Even though their attention is the last thing I crave, I just can’t stop. I dominate the track, the speed rattles my bones, and the wind and the crowd screams my name. I’m her. The girl driver. The queen of the race. And I’m surviving—something he thought I’d never do. They all still talk about him. Did you see Jared Trent on T.V? What did you think of his last race, Tate? When is he coming back to town, Tate? But I refuse to care too much. Because when Jared does come home, I won’t be here. Tatum Brandt is gone. I’m someone new.
Jared Trent feels left behind. All of his friends are moving forward with their lives and he can’t seem to find his way. His entire life is built around his love for Tate and his desire to be something that she can be proud of – but it’s not making him happy.
He knows that he needs to grow up to be the man that she deserves and he’s going to do it. Even if it means doing it alone. “Her eyes shoot to mine, and I can see the tears pooling there. “Jared, if you want to quit ROTC, then quit,” she cries. “I don’t care. You can study anything. Or nothing. Just – “
Tate has everything planned. She’s going to go to medical school, get married, have children and buy a house with a white picket fence. In an instant, all of that is gone and she’s totally blindsided by Jared’s sudden departure. Day after day, she tries to come to terms with the void he left behind but she only feels alive doing the one thing that reminds her of him the most – racing at The Loop.
After two long years, Jared’s finally back. But everything’s changed. Pain has made Tate harder and far more reckless. Will she ever believe that he had to go away so that he could be worthy of her or will everything that he ever loved all be set aflame?
I was tied in knots when I found out the premise of the final book in the Fall Away series, but I trusted Penelope to tell the rest of Jared and Tate’s story. She delivered something that absolutely shook me to the core! Just when I though I knew how it would unfold, she proved me wrong in the very best way – and she didn’t stop with only Jared and Tate.
Madoc, Fallon, Jax and Juliet are all there. But the most surprising development was the friendship that evolved between Madoc and Tate. It showed a side of both of them that I had never seen before and it moved me more that I ever thought possible. Aflame is quite literally perfection and as sad as I am that this is the end of the road for such an amazing series, I know that these characters will live forever in my heart… “At ten years old, Jared was my friend. At fourteen, my enemy; at eighteen, my lover; and at twenty, my heartbreak. I’d known him more than half my life, and although the roles had changed, his impact was always all consuming.
