Author: Nicole Jacquelyn On Sale: June 7, 2016 Format: Trade Paperback Price: $14.99 USD What do you do when your soul mate marries your best friend? If you're Kate Evans, you keep your friend Rachel, bond with her kids, and bury your feelings for her husband. The fact that Shane's in the military and away for long periods helps-but when tragedy strikes, everything changes. After Rachel, pregnant with her fourth child, dies in a car accident and the baby miraculously survives, Kate upends her entire life to share parenting duties. Then on the first anniversary of Rachel's death, Kate and Shane take comfort in each other in a night that they both soon regret. Shane's been angry for a year, and now he feels guilty too – for sleeping with his wife's best friend and liking it…liking her. Kate's ability to read him like a book may have once sent Shane running, but their lives are forever entwined and they are growing closer. Now with Shane deployed for seven months, Kate is on her own and struggling with being a single parent. Shane is loving and supportive from thousands of miles away, but his homecoming brings a betrayal Kate never saw coming. So Kate's only choice is to fight for the future she deserves – with or without Shane…
Kate Evans has loved Shane for as long as she can remember. She loved the little boy who grew up with her in foster care and she even loved the man who married her best friend.
She watches from the sidelines, always supportive and loving Shane’s children with all of her heart – until an unspeakable tragedy brings them closer than ever before. Shane Anderson always kept his distance from Kate. He knew that she once harboured a not-so-secret crush on him and barely tolerated her presence in his home as his wife’s best friend and confidant. But after Rachel’s death, Kate became something more. She was caregiver to his children and kept his household running when his grief became too heavy. But she also had worked her way into his heart. One night together has consequences that will last a lifetime and Shane will have to overcome the pain of his past if he wants to have a future with the girl who has come to mean everything to him. Once when I was nine, my parents had fostered a little boy who seemed to carry the weight of the world on his shoulders. He was a year younger than me, and quite a bit smaller. I remember that he didn’t speak much, but was always unfailingly polite when he did. I swear, that kid had seemed almost like a ghost in my nine-year-old mind, but I knew even then that ghosts needed friends. So I’d tried to be friends with him, and though he tolerated me, I didn’t think that he ever particularly liked me much. It wasn’t until his social worker showed up one day after school that I saw the boy smile. Apparently, his mom had left his abusive dad and had been awarded custody. He’d left our house with the largest smile I’d ever seen before or since, and even though I knew I’d miss having him around, I couldn’t help but be glad that he was that happy about leaving. If Shane found someone else, that’s how I wanted him to leave me behind. Joyfully. Even if it cut me to shreds.
Unbreak My Heart is one of those books that had me torn between throwing my Kindle against the wall or devouring another chapter! The connection between Kate and Shane is so tenuous at times that I wanted her to walk away never to look back. But the sting of his indifference was completely soothed by the sweetness of his children. I loved each and every one of them and I longed for a happy ending not only for Kate, but for them as well. And Nicole delivered the best one possible.
This series promises to be one that will hurt so very good and I can’t wait to read them all… Exclusive Excerpt -I don’t remember the drive to the hospital or even where I parked that afternoon. I can’t recall what the nurse looked like as she searched for Rachel’s name in their computer system or the walk toward the room where I waited for someone to speak to me. About The Author -
When Nicole Jacquelyn was eight and people asked what she wanted to be when she grew up, she told them she wanted to be a mom. When she was 12, her answer changed to author. Her dreams stayed constant. First, she became a mom, and then during her senior year of college--with one daughter in first grade and the other in preschool--she sat down and wrote a story.
