I had a choice, and I chose wrong.
I thought I lost everything. But when the smoke finally cleared, I discovered that I wasn’t alone.
Father Sullivan was a force – a living and breathing force, a forbidden desire I couldn’t resist. I didn’t want to resist. But I wasn’t the only one who wanted him, and by all accounts neither of us should have him.
I had decisions to make, secrets to uncover. Both would tear my heart, my life, and what was left of my family apart.
I wasn’t going to take any chances this time around. If I’d learned one thing during my life, it’s that death is the only certainty. It’s a matter of when, not if.
For every action, there is a reaction. For every choice, a consequence. If I hadn’t chosen to live again, I would have never known what life could be like …
With the Father
Grace seemed to be living a normal life with her husband and two young children. Until one night and one decision changed everything.
Now she’s hardly alive, numb and longs for a release from her pain. And salvation comes in the form of a handsome priest who not only quickens her spirit once again but also her heart.
“Life’s funny like that,” I said. “Sometimes it seems that after you’ve been dealt it’s hardest blow, something or someone will come along that changes your perspective on everything. And you have no choice, but to take a step backwards and realize everything you’ve been doing up until now is inconsequential and that this is the moment - the moment when you start to do it right.”
Father Paul Sullivan thought that there was always something different about Grace. Her light shined brighter that those around her and he aches to always be close. But for him, loving someone comes with sacrifice and he’s willing to pay the price. But all it takes is one moment to change everything.
“There’s no prescription for grief. Just like no one can tell you that you’ve grieved too long, no one can tell you that you haven’t grieved long enough. You have to go at your own speed and to hell with everyone else. You’ll know when you’re ready to move on.”
With the Father is one of those books that will have you guessing until the very end and even beyond! I literally had a “What did I just read?” moment but when it finally hit me, I was left with an overwhelming feeling of sadness.
The journey is incredibly poignant and the way that Jenni allows the reader to interpret the ending only adds to the experience. It’s unexpected, raw and thought provoking. Don’t forget the tissues…
