WALK THROUGH FIRE by Kristen Ashley
(October 27, 2015; Forever Mass Market; Chaos Series #4)
The flame never dies . . .
Millie Cross knows what it's like to burn for someone. She was young and wild and he was fierce and even wilder-a Chaos biker who made her heart pound. They fell in love at first sight and life was good, until she learned she couldn't be the woman he needed and made it so he had no choice but to walk away. Twenty years later, Millie's chance run-in with her old flame sparks a desire she just can't ignore. And this time, she won't let him ride off . . .
Bad boy Logan "High" Judd has seen his share of troubles with the law. Yet it was a beautiful woman who broke him. After ending a loveless marriage, High is shocked when his true love walks back into his life. Millie is still gorgeous, but she's just a ghost of her former self. High's intrigued at the change, but her betrayal cut him deep-and he doesn't want to get burned again. As High sinks into meting out vengeance for Millie's betrayal, he'll break all over again when he realizes just how Millie walked through fire for her man . . .
Millie Cross fell in love with Logan “High” Judd at a very tender age. He was everything that she ever wanted and they were in it for the long haul. They planned a life that was full of love and family and everything was perfect.
Until it wasn’t.
She left when she found out that she couldn’t give him what she thought he deserved and has been living as a ghost every day since. Now coming face to face with the man that still holds her heart in his hands, she finds that even though he moved on with his life – he never forgave her for leaving him behind.
“He hated me and there was nothing I could say that would change that. And the way he’d treated me— like what we had never happened, like what we shared wasn’t everything, like all of that didn’t buy me some kindness or at least some patience or at the very least some silence so I could share what I needed to share— it was inexcusable.
As much as High wants to hurt Millie as much as she hurt him all those years ago – he can’t stop the passion that still rages between them. He knows that some people never get a second chance to be with the other half of their soul, so this time he’s going to make sure to walk through fire to finally call Millie his
“Baby?” he whispered
Kristen brings to life one of her most unique leading ladies in Walk Through Fire.
Millie Cross allows herself to be beaten by the world at large and I literally found my heart breaking on every page for her. She sacrifices everything for those that she loves and asks nothing in return. Watching her finally get back High and build the life that she always dreamed of was soul-satisfying in a way that only Kristen can deliver.
There are tears of pain, tears of joy and the indescribable feeling of finding redemption once again on the back of a Chaos bike…
For Millie and High -
Our EXCLUSIVE Q & A With Kristen -
1.What’s the hardest thing about writing a reunion love story? What’s the easiest?
The hardest is experiencing the emotions of the characters’ regret of actions taken that shouldn’t have been or time lost. Being deep in the heads of my heroes and heroines, that can be exhausting and, for my characters, crippling. But I love the familiarity they have, the ability to build on something that already has a foundation rather than having to create the foundation. No insta-love there!
2.What can you tell us about High and Millie that we won’t find in the book?
High’s fighting a losing battle. Millie might embrace a house where there are coasters in only one room, and the woman can make a mess, but in the end, she’s still tidy (and so is Cleo, Zadie…not so much).
3.What’s the last book you read?
Natural Law by Joey W. Hill. An erotica story that, bar none, was the best erotica I’ve ever read. Not the easiest, it’s BDSM and there were comfort zones that were stretched for me, but hands down the best. The characters were wonderful and wonderfully well-drawn. The dialogue flowed beautifully. The writing is exceptional and the story was exceptionally well-told. There’s humor. There’s excitement (of more than the sexual variety). There’s deep emotion. The sex was amazing and amazingly described. But it was the way Joey guided her readers through those tough bits—bits that were essential to the story, that she needed us to get through but she handled us and her characters with care, so instead of squirming with unease, you understand precisely what it means to the story—that boggled my mind (in a good way). She has a gift. I immediately downloaded the next in that series and can’t wait to read it.
4.What has been your favorite experience as a writer?
There’s no way to pick just one. This is the best job in the world. The absolute best.
About Kristen -
Kristen Ashley grew up in Brownsburg, Indiana, and has lived in Denver, Colorado, and the West Country of England. Thus she has been blessed to have friends and family around the globe. Her posse is loopy (to say the least) but loopy is good when you want to write. Kristen was raised in a house with a large and multigenerational family. They lived on a very small farm in a small town in the heartland, and Kristen grew up listening to the strains of Glenn Miller, The Everly Brothers, REO Speedwagon, and Whitesnake. Needless to say, growing up in a house full of music and love was a good way to grow up. And as she keeps growing up, it keeps getting better.
