In this follow-up to Clipped Wings, the emotional love story continues between Hayden and Tenley; two young people who desperately want to love and be loved but are afraid to completely let go of their pasts.

In the wake of losing Tenley Page, tattooist Hayden Stryker's tumultuous past is haunting him. Plagued by nightmares about the murder of his parents, Hayden reaches out again to Tenley. Having run from the man she doesn't believe she deserves, Tenley finally lays her guilt to rest. Despite their intense physical attraction, Hayden and Tenley struggle to repair their fragile emotional connection. As Hayden gets closer to the truth, he must find a way to reconcile his guilt over his parents' death in order to keep the woman who finally cracked his armor, and found her way into his heart.

Tenley has been dragged back to deal with her painful past.  She knows that this is something that she has to deal with in order to move on the right way with Hayden.  She can’t help feel that somehow she betrayed him by disappearing without any warning and is going to fight tooth and nail to make it right when she returns.
“I missed our physical connection.  I missed the way he tasted, the feel of his skin, the endless lines of ink covering his body.  I wanted him back – but I needed to be worthy of him first.”
Hayden has been falling apart without Tenley.  The intense connection that they shared was the balm for his pain in so many ways – and now that it’s gone – he feels cast aside.  His phone calls go unanswered so he takes comfort in taking care of TK and Tenley’s apartment.  He never expects that when Tenley reappears, that the feelings between them are even stronger than before. They are going to meet their pasts head on and forge a better path together – one where there is no fear, no nightmares and no one but each other.
“Then Tenley came along and made me aware of everything I’d been missing but was too afraid to acknowledge. Just as she’d been running, so had I, but I was past that now. I had closure— but more than that, I had her. Tenley was the inception, my new beginning, the rebirth I’d been striving for. She embodied the phoenix embedded in my skin, rising from the ashes to start again.”
Inked Armor is Helena Hunting’s emotional follow up to Clipped Wings and she continues painting on her canvas of obsession, pain and undying love.  This is one of those books that you never want to end.  You become so emotionally invested in the characters that the edges between fiction and reality blur and you feel that you are actually experiencing the story along with them.  The ending was no longer bittersweet - it was just sweet – and just so you know, I’m keeping my eyes peeled for a Stryker hoodie of my very own…
